South Georgia is rich with wildlife offering close-up encounters with King Penguins and the unique terrains of the Falkland Islands offer spectacular hiking treks.

 

Note: This itinerary involves flying from Punta Arenas to King George Island and flying from the Falklands. Other options such as cruising in both directions are also available. Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Punta Arenas - Antarctica (D)

Fly to Antarctica. On arrival, zodiac transfer to your vessel

Day 2 - 4: Antarctic Peninsula (B L D)

For the next three we have varied itinerary exploring the Antarctic Peninsula. Sights visits include Paradise Harbour, Orne Harbour/Andvord Bay, Errera Channel to visit the penguin rookeries at Cuvercille Island. Humpback whales can be seen at Wilhelmina Bay. Land at Sea Lion Island to view the incredible diversity of wildlife at this location. Sail towards South Georgia.

Day 5 - 8: Elephant Island & Scotia Sea/ South Georgia (B L D)

Heading towards Elephant Island, we make a stop at Deception Island. On arrival at South Georgia Island, we will launch the zodiacs to explore the island/large numbers of elephant seals will line the dark sandy beaches. We will also see the king penguins and albatross.

Day 9 - 11: South Georgia - Southern Ocean (B L D)

Spend the next few days exploring the coastline, including Gold Harbour, Royal Bay, St Andrews Bay and Salisbury Plain. Cross the Scotia Sea.

Day 12 - 16: Southern Ocean - Falkland Island (B L D)

On the last day of South Georgia, slowly faced head towards Falkland Islands. We wake to the sight of landfall in the Falkland Islands. Approaching Sea Lion Island, we first note the very barren land and windswept landscape, exposed to the prevailing weather that originates in the Drake Passage.

We launch Zodiacs and go ashore to view the incredible diversity of wildlife found at this location. Three species of penguin including gentoo, magellanic and rockhopper, as well as southern elephant seals and South American sea lions are known to inhabit the area.

Day 17: Stanley - Punta Arenas (B)
