Tour Overview

Discover the rich and diverse history of Colombia in this tour showcasing the coffee and fruit region of the Cauca Valley and experiencing the new  transformed Medellin following the drug wars of the 1980’s. Experience the traditions and customs in this ‘coffee zone’ including local architecture, traditional liquors, and quaint but lively nightlife. You will learn about Pablo Escobar visiting the famous “La Catedral” originally a prison but now a monastery while reflecting on his life and his impact on the transformed Medellin.

DAY 1
Arrive in Medellin

On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Tonight, you will experience true local flavours as you visit a Fonda.

DAY 2
Medellin

On this tour, you will have the opportunity to really understand the transformation Medellin lived after the violent period. From the most dangerous city to the most innovative city in the world. You will visit Casa Museo de la Memoria and Comuna 13, the neighborhood at the core of the transformation. With a local guide, you will visit the escalators, the Metro Cable, the Hip Hop school and you will have a gastronomic and social experience that will help you to analyze how these people decided to change their life through art, graffiti, and music.

Afternoon tour retracing the life of the infamous, Pablo Escobar. You will visit La Catedral, the prison he built for himself and the Monaca Building where the law finally caught up with him

DAY 3
Medellin – Santa Fe de Antioquia

Today you will travel along the Cauca Riverbanks into the Western highlands of Antioquia to explore the colonial treasure of the region: Santa Fé de Antioquia. Founded in 1541 on the Western bank of the Cauca River, it became the first capital of Antioquia in 1584. Afternoon city tour to see the many colonial churches, plazas and monuments

DAY 4
Santa Fe de Antioquia - Jardin

This morning hit the road towards Jardín a beautiful village in Antioquia and surrounded by coffee and banana plantations. Jardín is famous for its colourful houses and balconies.  Experience the unique atmosphere on the main square and feel the serenity of Colombia´s coffee region

DAY 5
Jardin - Jerico

Travel to the precious coffee village of Jericó, listed as Cultural Heritage Village with the 16 most beautiful chapels of Antioquia in its town centre. Take a guided tour of the historic centre with its traditional facades and the local “carriel” workshops. These special leather accessories are handmade in Jericó and make great gift options

Jerico - Fredonia - Tamesis

Travel to the Andean village of Fredonia located high up in the hills surrounded by coffee- and fruit plantations. Discover the whole coffee processing from the plant to the cup with a local family before travelling to the Andean coffee village of Támesis located high above the Cauca River Valley

DAY 7
Tamesis - Salento

Támesis is known as one of the places with the greatest density of indigenous pre-Hispanic petroglyphs in Colombia. After visiting the archaeological museum, visit the archaeological sites in the region. Observe different types of petroglyphs and travel back into the ancient times before the Spanish invaders came into Colombia. After lunch continue to Salento

Salento

Morning departure to the Cocora Valley, located in National Park “Los Nevados”. Hummingbirds and endemic yellow-eared parrot live here. Upon arrival, either hiking or horseback riding, head into cloud-forest; enjoy biodiversity of flora and fauna. Cross Quindío River walking-along an ecological pathway through the tallest wax-palms in the world
