Itinerary

DAY 1
Bogota

You will be welcomed at the airport in Bogota for your transfer and check in at your hotel.

DAY 2
Bogota

Depart from your hotel for a day tour of the city, starting in the famous “La Concordia” food market, where you can browse the stalls filled with fruits, vegetables, herbs, fish, seafood, and meats. There are also plenty of local snacks to enjoy like “tamal”, “lechona”, and “pan de bono con avena”.

Continue your walking tour to “La Calendaria”, a historical neighborhood in Bogota’s downtown. Along the cobblestone streets, you can enjoy the district’s blend of colonial architecture, baroque churches and modern graffiti, cafes, and contemporary museums. This tour will also find you at “Plaza Bolivar”, the main square of the city, as well as the nearby Botero Museum to appreciate the art pieces of Colombian painter and sculptor “Fernando Botero”.

End your tour at the famous “Gold Museum”, containing 34,000 gold pieces and countless bone, ceramic, stone and textile artefacts belonging to 13 different pre-hispanic cultures and societies.

DAY 3
Bogota to Armenia

Leave Bogota for a 42km drive north to Zipaquira, the ‘City of Salt’. This town was built in the 18th century, boasting an impressive city centre with quaint cafes and restaurants. Then, journey 180m underground to visit the famous Salt Cathedral. At the end of the tour, watch a small video and learn about the mines’ bold history before driving back to Bogotá airport for your flight to the coffee region.

DAY 4
Armenia

Drive 30km through the stunning landscapes of the Quindio region to reach the Cocora Valley. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed with a traditional drink called “canelazo”. Enjoy a nature walk here along the ecological trail to see the world’s tallest palm tree, the “Palma de Cera”.

Drive another 11km to Salento, the oldest village in the region. Here you will enjoy a walking tour to appreciate its colonial streets, artisan workshops, and vibrant balconies.

After this excursion, you will be transferred back to your hotel for a night’s rest.

DAY 5
Armenia

Depart from your hotel for a drive through the beautiful, verdant landscape of Colombia’s coffee region. Visiting a traditional “Hacienda”, you can delve into the intricacies of coffee production; from seed planting and cherry ripening to harvesting and the careful selection of coffee cherries. Guided by locals, you can walk through the plantations, uncovering the secrets of coffee production, immersing yourself in the fine art of coffee tasting.

Overnight at your hotel.

DAY 6
Armenia to Medellin

Transfer from your hotel to Medellín. The journey takes around 6 to 8 hours and takes you through the beautiful mountain landscape. There will be three stops: at the Mirador in Pereira, at ‘El Tambo’ for lunch (not included) and a final stop already in Caldas department.

Arrival in Medellín and transfer to your hotel.

DAY 7
Medellin

Enjoy a day tour of Medellin, visiting the famous Botero Square, where you can walk amongst and appreciate the 23 large sculptures crafted by the Colombian artist Fernando Botero. Continue to the “Comuna 13” District to experience one of the city’s newest innovations: the electric stairways. In this district, learn about the ways that art, graffiti, and hip hop revitalized one of the 1990s’ most dangerous areas into the city’s main touristic spot. At the end, take the cable car up to San Javier for some of the most stunning views of the city.

Return to your hotel for the night.

DAY 8
Medellin

Leave Medellín and drive 83 km to the town of Guatapé, renowned for its church and the vibrant, colourful houses.

Continue to the “El Peñol” Boulder, a gigantic 200-meter high monolith that is one of the most spectacular spots in the area. If you wish, you can climb the 740 stairs to appreciate the stunning view of lush mountains and blue lakes.

Enjoy a short boat ride on the Guatape dam to explore its surroundings. Alternatively, you can simply relax along the shores or enjoy a walk around the lake.

After a traditional lunch, begin the drive back to Medellin for your overnight stay at your hotel.

DAY 9
Medellin to Cartagena

Depart your hotel for your transfer to the airport and flight to Cartagena.

Cartagena

Enjoy an all day city tour of Cartagena. During this tour, you will visit the Castillo San Felipe de Barajas, a fortress in the city located on the Hill San Lazaro. This castle has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984, alongside Cartagena’s old city centre. End your tour at the convent San Pedro Claver.

There is also an optional yacht ride and dinner on the Cartagena bay, where you will be served a four course meal and half bottle of wine per person.

Transfer to hotel (or from pier to hotel if you choose the optional yacht experience).

Today you have the day free at leisure to discover the city on your own. There are alternative options, subject to availability.
