Declared to be a National Historic Patrimony, La Trochita is a 750 mm, narrow gauge railway in Patagonia. The Trochita railway is 402 km in length and runs through the foothills of the Andes between Esquel and El Maitén in Chubut Province and Ingeniero Jacobacci in Río Negro Province, originally it was part of Ferrocarriles Patagónicos, a network of railways in southern Argentina. Itinerary
Half day journey aboard La Trochita to Nahuel Pan located 15 km away from Esquel.
Nahuel Pan is an ancient Mapuche settlement and was the first station of the long train journey. In this touristic route, the most breathtaking landscapes of foothills and Patagonian plateau are crossed. The train travels at an average of 45 km. per hour to this village where some of the inhabitants are direct descendants of the Mapuche aborigines. Evening transfer to Bariloche.
