Highlights

Itinerary
Early morning transfer alongside your English speaking guide to the Carmelita Community, a quaint indigenous-influenced community nestled in a remote, forested area 3.5 hours away from Flores by road. The local population includes descendants of the Maya, with their traditions and customs still significantly. After breakfast in Carmelita, commence your trek around 9am towards El Tintal, arriving around 4pm.
Enjoy the sunset from atop the Enequen Pyramid before your overnight stay at El Tintal.
An early start this morning for breakfast at your campsite before your departure for your walk to El Mirador. Arrive at the lesser-known Maya rest site of El Zomporero for a rest and snack, where you can enjoy the area’s stunning architecture. Continue your walk towards the Archaeological site of La Muerta for lunch. La Muerta, another Classical Maya site, is currently being researched, with archaeologists studying the site’s layout, artifacts and inscriptions.
After lunch at La Muerta, continue your trek towards El Mirador, a major urban center during the Preclassic period of the Maya civilization, around 1000BCE to 150CE. This site predates the more well-known Maya sites such as Tikal and Palenque.
Weather permitting, enjoy the stunning sunset at this site before dinner at your campsite at El Mirador.
After basking in the stunning sunrise, enjoy a breakfast followed by a full-day tour of El Mirador Archaeological site. The site is renowned for its large and sophisticated architectural features, including massive pyramids and ceremonial complexes. The most notable structure is the La Danta pyramid, one of the largest pyramids in the world in mass.
Overnight in El Mirador.
After breakfast, depart towards the archaeological site of Nakbe, located approx. 3.5 hours from El Mirador. On arrival at the site, enjoy a lunch before a site visit.
Nakbe was a major urban centre before the construction of later sites like Tikal and Calakmul. It is renowned for its monumental architecture, taking the form of impressive pyramids, plazas, and residential compounds. Key locations include the ‘Diablo Complex’; a large architectural complex with massive structures, and the ‘Pyramid of the Stelae’, a structure notable for its early stelae (carved stone monuments), which provides important insights into the early Maya writing system and monumental art.
Overnight camping at Nakbe.
Early departure from Nakbe towards El Guiro. This site features a number of pyramidal structures and elevated platforms. These structures reflect the early Maya architectural structural and planning styles. You will stop here, in El Guiro, for a rest and snack before continuing to La Florida.
La Florida was an important site during the Preclassic and Classic periods of Maya civilisation, roughly from 1000BCE to 250CE. This site is renown for its impressive pyramidal structures and large, open plazas.
