Cruise Overview

Cruise through Antarctica’s narrow passages and protected channels on board the Sea Spirit. This small yet manoeuvrable vessel navigates pleasantly into areas that larger ships cannot. There are seven luxurious cabin categories to choose from fitting a total of 114 passengers. There are plenty of social places and quiet nooks for rest and relaxation including, a club lounge, restaurant, bar, outdoor bistro, infirmary, library, gym and presentation lounge. Take advantage of the open bridge to view the spectacular Antarctic landscapes from the ships bridge (Captains station).

Falklands, South Georgia & Antarctic Islands

22 Nights/23 Days

Montevideo - Pre embarkation
Day 1

Excursions to the many sites of the Falklands, South Georgia, Antarctic Islands and Antarctic Peninsula are weather dependant, safety is a priority and therefore itineraries may be adjusted during your trip.

Arrive in the capital city of Montevideo, Uruguay. Upon arrival, group transfer to hotel and the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2

Group transfer from hotel to the pier to board the M/V Sea Spirit

Day 3-5

Travel towards the Falkland Islands. Whilst on board keep an eye out for dolphins and whales and enjoy presentations and workshops lead by expert staff.

Day 6-7

The Falkland Islands are truly a Birders paradise with large colonies of penguins and albatross that can be observed up close. There are also fur and elephant seals that layabout on the sandy beaches and whale and dolphin species that call the nearby waters home.

If weather permits, you will visit Stanley, the quaint capital of the Falkland Islands. While there visit the Falkland Islands Museum, the governor’s house, cathedral, a war memorial, gift shops, pubs and see shipwrecks viewed from the harbour.

Day 8-9

Head towards east to South Georgia, pass the remote Shag Rocks – a seabird-covered pinnacles. Prior to arrival in South Georgia expert staff will prepare lectures, brief and let you know of bio-security procedures.

Day 10-14

South Georgia hosts an abundant number of wildlife providing an opportune time to photograph or observe them at a safe but close distance. It is said that approximately 100 million seabirds inhabit South Georgia, including, albatross, king penguins, macaroni penguins prions, petrels and terns.

Elephant seals and fur seals can be found on the beaches of the Salisbury Plain and Andrews Bay while many whales can be seen in the surrounding waters.

Visit Grytviken, a former whaling station now museum and is the site of the final resting place of famous polar explorer, Ernest Shackleton.

Day 15-16

View the majestic albatross that soar throughout the Antarctic sky as you head southwest toward the Antarctic Peninsula.

South Shetland Islands & Antarctic Peninsula
Day 17-20

Be awestruck by the impressive scenery of glaciers and icebergs all unique in size, structure and coloured with many shades of blue in the Antarctic Peninsula. Penguins can be seen foraging in the sea along with krill and a variety of whale and seal species.

Visit sites such as Deception Island and Elephant Island among the South Shetland Islands. It is here where you will learn its fascinating history and teeming with wildlife.

Drake Passage & Beagle Channel
Day 21-22

Heading north through the Drake Passage back toward South America. Cross the famous Beagle Channel.

Day 23

After breakfast we disembark in Ushuaia. Group transfer to airport or town center for those who wish to spend more time here

Group transfer from hotel to board the luxury expedition ship M/V Sea Spirit. Cross the Beagle Channel on your first night and pass the islands of Tierra de Fuego

Enjoy the panaromaic view on board one of the decks to see pelagic seabirds

Day 5-9

Be awestruck by the impressive scenery of glaciers and icebergs all unique in size, structure and coloured with many shades of blue in the Antarctic Peninsula. Penguins can be seen foraging in the sea along with krill and a variety of whale and seal species. See the sheltered bays along the Gerlache Strait which has the famous Lemaire Channel or ‘Kodak Gap’ earning its name thanks to its stunning scenery of a narrow passage  sheltered by towering icebergs.

Visit sites such as Deception Island among the South Shetland Islands. It is here where you will learn its fascinating history and teeming with wildlife.

Back across the Drake Passage
Day 10-11

Head back across the Drake Passage towards Ushuaia. Enjoy a farewell dinner to end your voyage.

Enjoy presentations and lectures by the expert staff to prepare for your journey ahead. Here you will gain a solid understanding of Antarctic wildlife, history and the fascinating geology that makes up this ‘White continent’.

If weather and sea conditions permits, you will experience your first landing in the South Shetland Islands.

South Georgia
Day 11-15

South Georgia is one of the few places in Antarctica flourishing with wildlife. Throughout exploring  and cruising the islands of South Georgia, keep your eyes peeled for elephant seals, humpbacks, orcas, albatrosses and the handsome king penguins.

Visit Grytviken, a former whaling station and is also the final resting place of the famous polar explorer, Ernest Shackleton.

Day 16-17

As you head west towards the Falkland Islands enjoy a read in the library or attend presentations and workshops on board lead by expert staff.

Day 18-19

Off the beaten track with miles of rugged coastlines and endless beauty of flora and fauna, the Falkland Islands are truly a picturesque escape away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Here you’ll find sea lions, fur seals, black-browed albatrosses and several penguin species including the King, Gentoo and Magellanic.

Visit the quaint yet charming capital, Stanley. Walk the streets to see the British architecture and see shipwrecks on the coast and unusual whalebone arch.

Day 20-22

Cruise across the final sea passage as your voyages is nearing the end. Soak up the stunning landscape from the decks and continue to spot the whales and seabirds before arriving in Montevideo.

Disembark the Sea Spirit in Montevideo then take a group transfer to the airport or the city centre.
