Itinerary

DAY 1
Catamarca City - Belen

Upon arrival at Catamarca City airport, you will be met by our representative and be transferred by road to the small town of Belen, famous for its loom weaving.

The Loom Route – “Ruta del Telar” – allows us to learn about the work of these local artisans and their ancestral skills. Upon arrival to Belen, you will check in at your hotel and have free time for lunch before embarking on an afternoon tour of the “Ruta del Poncho”. Overnight in Belen 

DAY 2
Belen - Antofagasta de la Sierra

Your real adventure starts after breakfast as you head forward towards Antofagasta de la Sierra, travelling along Argentina’s famous “Ruta 40”, visiting key sites like The Quebrada de Belen – a gorge known for its rocky formations, characteristic mountain vegetation; Randolfo Sandunes, the town of El Penion, Volcanoes like Alumbrera, Jote and “Campo Negro; Antofagasta Lagoon and much more. 

Arrive in Antofagasta, a large town located at an altitude of around 3,400 meters (11,200 feet) above sea level.

The town has a rich cultural heritage, with indigenous communities such as the Atacama and Diaguita people having historical ties to the region. There are also archaeological sites with petroglyphs and other remnants of ancient civilizations.

Stay overnight in Antofagasta.

DAY 3
Antofagasta de la Sierra

An early start is required this morning to have ample time to visit the different highlights of the day including the rugged beauty of the Puna region.  You will visit the town of Antofalla with a rich cultural heritage and with ties to indigenous communities such as the Atacama and Diaguita peoples. The area also contains archaeological sites, reflecting its ancient human habitation.

Visit The Salar de Antofalla salt flats and experience the serene and otherworldly landscapes of the Andean highlands. 

Along the way you will also visit the Calacaste and Devil’s Gorges.

Overnight in Antofagasta de la Sierra.

DAY 4
Antofagasta de la Sierra

Your adventure continue today as you keep discovering the mighty volcanoes and lagoons of the region.  Visit to  Volcan Galan – an astrovolcano – part of the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes Mountain.

You will also visit Laguan Grande y Laguna del Pabellon known for their scenic beauty and as important habitats for migratory birds and local species.

Overnight in Antofagasta de la Sierra.

DAY 5
Antofagasta de la Sierra - Belen

You leave the Puna behind as you head back to Belen, discovering now other attractions of the area such as Laguna de Carachi – known for its serene beauty and the tranquil atmosphere.

“Campos de Piedra Pomez” – Pumice fields – were formed by volcanic activity over millions of years. They consist of vast expanses of pumice stone, which is a light-coloured, porous rock that forms when lava cools rapidly and traps gas bubbles.

DAY 6
Belen - Fiambala

After breakfast we travel southward from Belen towards Tinogasta along “Ruta 60” to visit the famous “Ruta del Adobe” – a cultural and tourist route that passes through several towns and villages known for their adobe architecture.

Along de way you will also visit Shincal de Londres – a pre-Columbian administrative center of the Inca Empire, showcasing the historical and cultural richness of the region.

From Tinogasta continue northward to the town of Fiambala – in the Andes Mountains, approximately 320 kilometers of the provincial capital, San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca. After you check in at your hotel you will have free time for lunch before heading to the Termas de Fiambala in the afternoon to enjoy a well-deserved relaxation at the hot springs

DAY 7
Fiambala

Another day full of adventures awaits you.  Leave Fiambala after breakfast heading towards the Andes to visit some of the region landmarks. “Quebrada de Angosturas” is a gorge formed by the erosion of sedimentary rock over millions of years by water and wind forces. 

Continue to Casadero Grande – characterized by its rocky terrain, canyons, and unique geological formations. It is part of the broader Andean foothills and is known for its diverse flora and fauna adapted to the arid climate. Then onto Cortaderas before heading to Los Seismiles or “The Six-Thousands” –   a group of mountains in the Andes Mountain range that exceed 6,000 meters   in elevation. 

On your way back to Fiambala you will visit Saujil and Medanitos – north of the town of Fiambalá – travelling to these places is like travelling to the Sahara Desert. Boasting the most spectacular landscapes in Argentina, it offers a unique place for you to experience the magic of the desert and enjoy activities such as sand boarding, photographic safaris.

Fiambala - Catamarca City

Morning at leisure before your transfer back to the airport in Catamarca City for your onward flight.
