This short tour is a great introduction to Panama. Explore the main attractions around Panama City. Visit the colonial quarter known as ‘Casco Viejo’, the Embera Indian village and travel through parts of the magnificent Panama Canal.
Itinerary
In the morning, your English speaking guide will pick you up from the hotel and take you on a private tour to Panama City and Miraflores Locks. Visit the Museum and Visitor Centre at Miraflores giving you an insight on the construction of the world famous canal. Continue to Amador Causeway, a road connecting three islands in the Pacific Ocean offering magnificent views on the Canal on one side and the Panama City skyline on the other side.
Morning pick up and drive north to Lake Alajuela to board a small motorboat. Travel upstream along Chagres River to Embera village where the Embera tribe welcomes you. The village chief will provide a detailed explanation about the history of the tribe including traditions, customs, beliefs and handicrafts. Enjoy a traditional lunch of fish and plantains prepared and served by Embera women. Afternoon, experience a traditional Embera dance before returning to Panama City.
Transfer to Gamboa where the Panama Canal’s dredging division is located. Begin your Panama Canal cruise. Enter the Canal at the north end of the Gaillard cut where the Chagres River flows into the Canal. Witness the mechanics of the Canal and its Locks. Once in the Pacific Ocean, the vessel will sail to the beautiful Flamenco Marina where you disembark. Transfer back to your hotel.
