The Unspoilt Natural Wonder of the Galapagos

The Galapagos Islands is one of those places whose name is synonymous with that of legends. An archipelago of volcanic islands who, like that of other isolated destinations, give it that end of the world like status. A place of mystery, of unknown boundaries, where the most intrepid of world-trotters find their place amongst a mystical land of stunning natural scenery and endless wildlife. Much of this wildlife is unique to the archipelago and found nowhere else in the world. The team at South America Tourism have a special affinity with the Islands, and we want to share some of our experience here in the hope that you too will want to experience its astounding wonder.Read on to find out why the Galapagos Islands is one of our favourite Latin American destinations, and why you should consider hopping over there from Ecuador.

The Main Thing – Biodiversity

When Charles Darwin and the crew of the Beagle arrived at the Islands in 1835, they were astounded by the endless array of wildlife that inhabited the archipelago. His studies and observations of the endemic species of Galapagos formed a large contribution to his theory of evolution by natural selection. Today, you too can experience in the awe-inspiring diversity of the island chain, where Galapagos tortoise, Marine Iguana, fur seals, and penguins (just to name a few) share their space on the shores and sands of the landscape. For an animal lover, it’s hard to think of a better place to experience so many endemic species living in their natural environment.

Endless Activities in an Inspiring Land

The natural landscape of the Galapagos Islands, whilst not boasting the pristine tropical charm of the Caribbean of Hawaii, is full of amazing places for a wealth of activities, many of which are offered by South America Tourism. Walk through the magical Lava Tunnels of Bellavista, where you will truly feel like you have entered the underground realm of some otherworldly being. Or hike the Punta Estrada Cracks, where you will bear witness to even more incredible wildlife. For some truly awe-inspiring scenery, tour the Sierra Negra Volcano, where the crater expands over a massive seven kilometres.
