Tour Overview
Welcome to Ushuaia, the most southern city in the world and the capital of Tierra Del Fuego. This Argentine town sits pretty between the Beagle channel and the snow-capped Martial Range; its dramatic position makes it a great launch for adventure travel around Tierra del Fuego. This is a great way to begin or end a fantastic Patagonian adventure.
When the explorer Magellan sailed around the great island at the tip of South America, he saw Indian campfires all along the coast and called the island Land of smoke. It was later reasoned that where there is smoke there is fire and the name was eventually changed to Tierra del Fuego. The archipelago covers a total area slightly smaller than Ireland, with 70% belonging to Chile. The border runs down the middle of the Beagle Channel.
Tierra del Fuego is home to several of the world’s largest birds including the rhea, the condor and the albatross. Large animals also found there are guanacos, otters, seals and sea lions.
