The foothills of the Patagonian Andes offer wild beauty with the best highlights of Southern Patagonia, trekking to the Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre granite needles and the wilderness of Laguna del Desierto, one of the few places where you can still easily see the Patagonian deer or “huemul” and pristine mountain woodland surrounded by glaciers extending all the way to the Chilean border. This is definitely one of the best and most isolated treks you can do in this wild area of Patagonia.
Early morning pick up to start to your hike to Mt Fitzroy. Trekking via the valley of Rio Blanco, we can see the first balcony to Piedras Blancas Glacier.
From there we walk further, reaching Rio Blanco Camp site, then another hour walk up the trail reaching Laguna de los Tres. From the lake, there are even better panoramic views of Cerro Fitz Roy! You can also see Laguna Sucia and Lago Viedma in the distance. After lunch we start the return to El Chaten taking the trail to Laguna Capri.
