Tour Overview

See the contrasting biospheres of the Pantanal and the Amazon on this tour. Observe the differences in flora and fauna as you travel from the Amazon to the Pantanal wetlands.

The Pantanal is the largest floodable plain of the planet, classified as World Natural Heritage and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.It is one of the last large wild frontiers of the planet and certainly the best location in the Americas to watch wildlife, especially the enigmatic jaguar. The Amazon of Mato Grosso is the south border of this large sanctuary of wide biodiversity. Alta Floresta, with its meridional forest, offers the largest concentration of endemic birds in the Brazilian Amazon.

Itinerary

DAY 1
Arrive in Manaus/ Amazon

On arrival you will be met and transferred to your lodge Amazon Eco Lodge.

DAY 2
Amazon

Trekking through the area to see the transitions from Savanna to Amazon learning about the history of the rubber extraction industry. Canoe onto Claro River whilst observing Amazon kingfisher, Muscovy duck, cormorants and herons.

DAY 3
Amazon

After breakfast trek into deep forest with possible sighting of the tapir – the largest mammal in South America.

DAY 4
Amazon – Pantanal

Morning transfer to Araras Eco Lodge (197km). Explore the surroundings of the lodge. Night walk after dinner.

DAY 5
Pantanal

Day activities include canoeing and trekking. See giant river otters playing with their babies or try piranha fishing. Afternoon trek to Howler Monkey Tower for magnificent views of the sunset.

DAY 6
Pantanal

After breakfast go horse back riding and trekking. Explore the inaccessible flooded areas on horseback before returning to the lodge for lunch. Afternoon trek to Rondon Trail towards the Jabiru Stork Tower to watch the Jabiru stock nest.

Return to Cuiaba airport
