Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu

Early morning departure by road to Limatamo, this is the beginning of your journey trekking to the Salkantay lodge through the old route called the “Camino Real”. Salkantay lodge takes its name from the majestic peak at head of the valley – Mt Salkantay. Overnight at the lodge.

Today you will take an acclimatization hike to the slopes above the lodge to Lake Humantay, fed by the hanging glaciers of Mt. Humantay. Afternoon at leisure and overnight at the lodge.

Early morning start for your hike up the Rio Blanco Valley, circling Humantay Peak across from the Salkantay Peak (4630 m). Dinner will be served on arrival at the Wayra Lodge.

Continue your decent through increasingly verdant scenery. Arrive at Colpa lodge, you will be greeted with a Pachamanca. (A traditional Peruvian meal).

Hike along the Santa Teresa River valley, you will pass through banana, granadilla and avocado orchids and coffee plantations. Continuing your journey on the “Llactapata Inca Trail” where you will arrive at Lucma Lodge.

Today you will trek uphill towards Llactapata Pass, here you will come upon a spectacular view of Machu Picchu sanctuary. Lunch will be served on a scenic view point looking out to Machu Picchu. Here you will begin your decent towards Aguas Calientes. Overnight at hotel.

Morning at leisure before catching the afternoon train to Cuzco.
